I recommend using my Smaller Vendor Buildings Compilation, which includes a General Store.
This mod adds a General Store, which works similarly to a Market, but has a smaller radius. It uses the same Vendor profession type, and the graphics are from the Tavern. Currently, the radius is 30, like most buildings, down from the Market's 45, making the coverage area roughly 44% of a Market. The building materials required are identical to the Tavern, which is a lot less stone and iron than the Market, but almost as much wood. As of v7, the storage capacity is 3000 (30% of a market), and the worker count is accordingly to 4, max 8. My hope is that these limits help keep it as a relatively balanced option versus the Market.

This is the full source code, so that others can tweak values to suit their playstyle, change the language, package it up with a mod collection, or just to learn how to do simple mods. If you would like to add graphics, feel free to start with this code and go it alone, or I can integrate it into my package.
v2: Removed Iron, Logs, and Textiles from the carried goods. Reduced worker count to 25% of Market, like the storage capacity.
v3: Changed build icon from the wooden house to one provided by fubasa.
v4: Replaced the mod menu icon with the new toolbar icon used. Modified the file name to include a version string.
v5: Removed underscores from file name, which upon being converted to dashes during upload, caused the mod to properly load.
v6: Moved this toolbar option between the Market and Trading Post.
- Fixed work enable button
- Package restructured to remove dependence on original files that would be needed locally. This should make it more compatible with other people's mods. - Increased storage capacity from 2500 to 3000. - Increased worker count from 3 to 4, and max from 6 to 8.
